POS Battery Market Grows Steadily Amid Retail Digitalization Drive

  • Release time: 2025-12-23
The POS battery industry is experiencing consistent expansion, fueled by the ongoing digital transformation of retail, catering, and hospitality sectors worldwide. As point-of-sale (POS) terminals evolve into compact, multifunctional devices for payment processing, inventory management, and customer data collection, the demand for reliable, high-performance batteries has risen significantly.
Lithium-polymer batteries have become the preferred choice for modern POS terminals, thanks to their lightweight design, flexible form factors, and stable discharge performance. Unlike traditional lithium-ion batteries, these units can be customized to fit slim POS device structures without compromising on working hours. Most mainstream POS batteries now support 8–10 hours of continuous operation on a single charge, meeting the needs of busy retail environments during peak business hours. Additionally, optimized battery management systems (BMS) have been widely adopted, featuring overcharge, over-discharge, and short-circuit protection functions to enhance device safety and extend battery cycle life.
Market demand for POS batteries is closely linked to the growth of contactless payment and mobile POS solutions. Small and medium-sized merchants, in particular, are increasingly adopting portable POS terminals for on-site transactions, driving the need for batteries that perform well in diverse environments—from indoor stores to outdoor pop-up stalls. Industry data shows that the global POS battery market saw a year-on-year growth of 6.2% in the first half of this year, with Asia-Pacific emerging as a key growth region due to the rapid expansion of e-commerce and offline retail integration.
Sustainability has also become a focus for manufacturers. Many suppliers are now increasing the use of recycled cathode materials in battery production, while designing products with easier disassembly processes to facilitate end-of-life recycling. Some enterprises have launched battery replacement and recycling programs, allowing merchants to dispose of old POS batteries in an environmentally friendly manner.
Industry experts predict that the POS battery sector will continue its steady growth trajectory, with technological advancements focusing on faster charging speeds and longer cycle life. As POS terminals integrate more functions such as facial recognition and receipt printing, the role of high-quality batteries in ensuring seamless merchant operations will become increasingly prominent.
